Work During Studies

International students in the UK can work while studying, with specific limitations on working hours. Students on a Tier 4 (General) Student Visa can work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during university holidays. The types of jobs available include part-time roles in retail, hospitality, or internships related to their field of study. However, students are prohibited from self-employment, professional sports, or working as a doctor or dentist in training unless they meet specific criteria.

After completing their studies, international students can apply for the Graduate Route Visa, which allows them to stay in the UK for up to two years (or three years for doctoral graduates) to work or seek employment at any skill level. Post-Study Work Visa

• On-Campus Jobs: You can take up on-campus roles like working in university cafes, libraries, or as research assistants.

• Retail and Hospitality: Many students find work in shops, restaurants, or cafes, which often offer flexible hours.
• Internships and Part-Time Roles Related to Study: Some students work in roles directly related to their degree, such as internships or assistant positions in research or academia.

3️⃣ Restrictions:

• Self-Employment: International students cannot work as self-employed individuals or start their own business while studying.
• Professional Sports: You are not permitted to work as a professional sports player.
• Full-Time Employment During Term Time: Exceeding the 20-hour weekly limit during term time can lead to penalties, including visa cancellation.

4️⃣ Post-Graduation Work:

• Graduate Route Visa: After completing a degree, international students can apply for the Graduate Route Visa, which allows them to stay in the UK for 2 years (or 3 years for doctoral graduates) to work or look for work at any skill level. This visa allows students to work full-time without restrictions and helps in gaining UK work experience.

5️⃣ Skilled Worker Visa:

• If students secure a job with an eligible UK employer, they can apply for a Skilled Worker Visa. This visa allows them to stay in the UK longer and work in a specific skilled job.
